Landscape in Grev Kafi's work is a school of observation, where a sense of light, air, scale and rhythm takes shape.
The mountain cycle is connected with the Tien Shan, Issyk-Kul, the Ili River and the expanse of Central Asia. Nature here is a majestic environment in which one learns to see measure, silence and the movement of light.
Later a Moldovan and Ukrainian geography appears: the Dniester, Old Orhei, the parks of Chișinău, Kamianets-Podilskyi, the Carpathians.
Context
The duo's own practice took shape in mountain plein-air work too: the quick study, the exact state, coordinated four-hands work. Landscape became for Grev Kafi the school on which the large symbolic canvases also grew.
Later, landscape becomes not only a view of a place but cultural memory, where nature and history merge into a single image.
